The source audio for this track is part three of the Kenneth Kirschner album June 5, 2012, which features Kirschner on piano and Tawnya Popoff on viola. The album was released in September 2012 on the
shskh.com netlabel, where it is available for free download.
The contributed audio is an excerpt of "The Flood", a 22 minute and 48 second ambient piece that was recorded at Public Space One in Iowa City on October 19, 2008. It features Mark Rushton on laptop, field recordings, and Xiosynth, and Jon Harnish on bass guitar and Zoom fx box.
After I (Mark Rushton) heard the Kirschner piece a few times, I wasn't sure whether to go rhythmic or to incorporate "something else" in the mix. Eventually I remembered I had this long piece called The Flood that we recorded about 4 years ago and was unreleased. Some trial and error in the DAW later, I was able to adjust a section of The Flood so it sounds like we're in that room together and playing off each other. Or at least I'd like to think so...
There was no editing of the portion of The Flood that I used other than fades on either end.
I'm glad Marc allowed trimming. It wouldn't have worked if I had done an overlay of the entire Kirschner piece. I thought it worked pretty good for this 3 minute and 50 second section.
We join the Kirschner piece about 47 seconds in from the original track. About the same thing with The Flood.
